Focus and Scope

Journal Mobile Technologies (JMS) is dedicated to advancing the theoretical foundations, engineering methodologies, and applied practices in mobile computing and ubiquitous technology environments. The journal explores how mobile platforms, wireless networks, embedded smart devices, and intelligent algorithms are conceptualized, designed, evaluated, and deployed to solve complex real-world challenges across various societal, commercial, educational, and healthcare domains.

JMS welcomes original research articles, technical evaluations, systematic reviews, software tools, and applied field studies. The core research themes encompass, but are not limited to, the following primary clusters:

• Mobile Application Engineering & Modern Frameworks: Native mobile development (Android/Kotlin, iOS/Swift), cross-platform architectures (Flutter, React Native, MAUI), progressive web apps (PWA), mobile software testing, and app monetization models.
• Mobile User Interface (UI) & User Experience (UX) Engineering: User-centered design (UCD), mobile usability evaluation, responsive design patterns, micro-interactions, accessibility standards, and behavioral analytics in mobile interactions.
• Mobile Computing, Cloud & Edge Processing: Mobile edge computing (MEC), cloud-assisted mobile platforms, battery runtime optimization, mobile database engines, offline synchronization, and resource-constrained runtime execution.
• Mobile Security, Cryptography & Privacy Safeguards: Mobile malware detection, application obfuscation, mobile biometric authentication, secure cloud storage, API endpoint security, and mobile data privacy regulations.
• Mobile Networks, Wireless Protocols & Infrastructure: 5G/6G mobile communication networks, vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANET), mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), NFC, and mobile QoS/QoE optimization.
• Mobile Internet of Things (IoT) & Wearable Systems: Smart facility control interfaces, wearable sensor integration, mobile telemetry dashboards, smart city mobile apps, and real-time remote monitoring systems.
• AI-Assisted Mobile Systems & On-Device Intelligence: On-device machine learning (TensorFlow Lite, CoreML), computer vision, speech recognition, intelligent mobile recommendation systems, and AI-driven user behavior analytics.
• Domain-Specific Mobile Applications & Impact Studies: Empirical studies and field applications of mobile solutions in healthcare (mHealth), mobile learning (mLearning), mobile commerce (mCommerce), e-government, tourism, and public safety.

Authorship Criteria & Standards

Authorship in JMS is strictly reserved for individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the published work. In alignment with COPE guidelines and the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) framework, all listed authors must meet four standard criteria: (1) substantial contributions to research conception, mobile software architecture, or data collection and analysis; (2) drafting or critically revising the manuscript; (3) approving the final version to be published; and (4) agreeing to be accountable for all aspects of the research. Language Policy

JMS accepts and publishes manuscripts written in English or Indonesian. Every published manuscript must feature a comprehensive bilingual abstract (both English and Indonesian) to maximize global discoverability while supporting regional academic engagement. Submissions must be prepared in clear, grammatically sound language using the official JMS article template.

Peer Review Process & Workflow

All submitted manuscripts must represent original, unpublished work that is not under evaluation by another journal or conference. JMS enforces a rigorous double-blind peer review workflow managed through Open Journal Systems (OJS):

   Initial Desk Screening

   The handling editor evaluates the submission for scope alignment, template formatting, document completeness, and verification of the 4 Mandatory Declarations (AI Usage, CRediT taxonomy, Funding, and Conflict of Interest).

2. 2
   Plagiarism & Integrity Screening

   Submissions are automatically screened using iThenticate, Turnitin, and Copyleaks. Manuscripts exceeding an overall 20% similarity index are returned or rejected outright.

3. 3
   Double-Blind Peer Review

   Anonymized drafts are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers from our reviewer team. Author and reviewer identities remain strictly decoupled throughout the evaluation.

   Editorial Decision

   The Editor-in-Chief renders a formal decision based on reviewer reports: Accept Submission, Revisions Required (Minor), Resubmit for Review (Major), Resubmit Elsewhere, or Decline Submission.

   Revision & Re-Evaluation

   Authors submit revised drafts along with a point-by-point response matrix within specified deadlines for editorial or reviewer re-assessment.

   Production & Publication

   Accepted manuscripts proceed through professional copyediting, galley typesetting, DOI registration via Crossref, and online publishing.

JMS maintains an efficient review schedule: initial screening is completed within 5 days, peer review takes approximately 14 to 21 days, total submission-to-acceptance averages 30 days, and online publication occurs within 10 days post-acceptance. Article landing pages explicitly feature complete genesis milestones (Received, Revised, Accepted, Published).

Special Issue Policy

JMS periodically hosts Special Issues focusing on emerging breakthroughs in mobile technology, such as on-device AI models, 6G communication protocols, and mobile IoT applications. Guest Editors manage the review process in strict compliance with the journal's double-blind peer review policies. Proposals may be directed to the Editorial Office.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

JMS acknowledges the assistance offered by Artificial Intelligence tools in scholarly writing while safeguarding academic transparency:

• Transparent Disclosure: Authors must provide an explicit statement prior to References indicating whether or not Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grammarly AI) were used during manuscript preparation, naming the tool, version, and exact scope of use.
• AI Authorship Preclusion: Non-human AI tools cannot be credited as authors or co-authors under COPE standards.
• Author Ownership & Integrity: Authors maintain full legal and intellectual responsibility for factual assertions, algorithmic models, code accuracy, datasets, and original conclusions.
• Permitted Scope: AI usage is limited to proofreading, stylistic refinement, translation support, and literature review mapping.
• Prohibited Use: AI tools must not fabricate research data, generate fictitious citations, or manipulate experimental software results.
• Reviewer Confidentiality: Reviewers and editors must not upload unpublished manuscript files into public AI systems.

Publication Frequency & Scheduling

Journal Mobile Technologies (JMS) is published twice a year (biannually) in February and September.

Open Access Statement

JMS is an immediate Gold Open Access journal. All published articles are freely available online immediately upon publication without paywalls or subscription barriers, supporting the global exchange of knowledge in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

Article Processing Charges (APC) & Fee Policy

JMS operates an author-pays Open Access publishing model supported by Article Processing Charges (APC). Initial manuscript submission and peer review are free of charge; fees apply only after a manuscript is formally accepted.

Copyright and Licensing Terms

Authors retain full copyright of their published work and grant the journal first publication rights under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Scientific record integrity is maintained through citable Corrigenda/Errata for significant errors, while retractions follow official COPE Retraction Guidelines.

JMS content is permanently preserved across distributed digital repositories, including LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, and the PKP Preservation Network (PKP-PN).

Journal History & Development Timeline

• Inaugural Launch (2023): Journal Mobile Technologies (JMS) was established in early 2023 by Divisi Riset, Lembaga Mitra Solusi Teknologi Informasi (L-MSTI), releasing Volume 1 Number 1 (February 2023) and Volume 1 Number 2 (September 2023) focusing on localized mobile technologies in education, health, and community services.
• Systematic Expansion (2024–2025): Published Volume 2 (2024) and Volume 3 (2025) across regular February and September cycles, covering cloud storage ethical studies, mHealth tools, user monetization strategies, and UI/UX design frameworks.
• Continuity in Volume 4 (2026): Released Volume 4 Number 1 (February 2026) and Volume 4 Number 2 (September 2026), focusing on machine learning applications, user-centered design, IoT systems, and mobile app user behavior.
• National Accreditation – SINTA 4 (July 2026): Pursuant to the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Science, and Technology No. 355/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026 dated 24 July 2026 and Letter No. 862/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026 dated 28 July 2026, Journal Mobile Technologies (JMS) was officially awarded SINTA 4 national accreditation, valid from Volume 1 (2023) through Volume 5 (2028).
• OJS 3.4 Infrastructure Upgrade (2026): Migrated to Open Journal Systems (OJS) version 3.4.0-11, introducing a modern responsive web interface, enhanced security protocols, and standardized metadata structures.
• Persistent Identifiers – ROR & ORCID (2026): Integrated Research Organization Registry (ROR ID) metadata and author ORCID iD tracking across all published papers.
• Standardized Template & Mandatory Declarations (Target 2027): Updated manuscript template scheduled for Volume 5 (2027) requiring 4 Mandatory Author Declarations (AI Usage, CRediT taxonomy, Funding, and Competing Interests).
